This is the 'non exploration themed' guide to scanning and probing - i.e. using the ship scanner and recon probes to find PVP targets.
I hope it helps those who are interested in getting up close and personal with those you want to find out in the vastness of space.

Please forgive me for not commenting on the other guides, but I'm finding them all very useful and well-done.
I've been looking forward to this one in particular since I'll have to use scanning and probing when I return to nullsec. Gods only know I wouldn't be able to figure it out on my own, and you've saved me from asking volumes of noob questions thus far.
I, sir, am eternally in your debt.

Sorry, but I think this is incorrect, "The scanner will only identify
ship names (not ship types) and can only give an immediate snapshot of everything that is
within range of the scan." as I think I can see ship name, type, and distance on my onboard scanner.
Other than that, it's a great quick guide! I got some new info out of it!
Ooh I'm intreagued now, they might have changed it a patch or 2 ago. Havent tried any scanning since Quantum Rise hit.
Interesting, I stand corrected.
Theres now a 'Type' and 'Distance' Field on the scanner. Tell you the truth, there was always a distance one, but its a bit buggy, or at least I've never figured out how to see what will show on the distance one, as I've only ever seen it show '-' rather than a distance. It's not just because of the thing not being on the grid either, as there are some entries (though admittedly, the always show up ones like stations)which show as something like 30 million km away. I'll do some fiddling about and amend the guide to suit. Nice spot.
Anytime bud!
Keep these guides up they are nice to read!
Big big thanks!
OK slight update - I've corrected the issues that Tony highlighted, and altered the text a bit to clear up some confusion I had made even for myself. Hopefully this new version of the guide is a lot more accurate to the current game.
